Mother of one and style influencer, Jahna Barraclough has an impeccable sense of style – just visit her Instagram feed and you’ll see outfits that are sophisticated and timeless. She recently visited Silverdale Mall to check our fashion offerings and curated an edit of Spring fashion picks for the modern woman. We chat with her about all things fashion – from her key picks for Spring to how to put together an instantly effortless look.

Hi Jahna, please tell us more about your style.

I would describe my style as effortless, comfortable and classic.

My style has changed a lot over the years. Before I had my son Benji, I would purchase everything from the latest season, the latest prints and colours. Although wonderful, this ends up costing a lot and I had an overflowing wardrobe. During this past year, I have been working extremely hard on selling my fast fashion pieces and have been building a capsule wardrobe. This is easy to mix and match with everything complementing each other in a beautiful way. Building a capsule wardrobe, I am sticking to a budget and also being friendly to the environment. 

If I want something fun for a photoshoot I will usually rent or use samples from labels.

What’s your biggest fashion tip for trans-seasonal dressing as we head into Spring?

 LAYERS! This is so important, especially with the unpredictable Auckland weather. I love keeping a light coat and knit with me wherever I go at the moment.

What are your top picks from the brands at Silverdale Mall for Spring season?

I absolutely loved the cuts on the Jeanswest range, there is something to suit everybody. 

Farmers has some beautiful fun pops of colour at the moment in classic everyday cuts and fabrics which I am including into my wardrobe this spring. There are also some great staple shoes from Deejays.

Please share your top tips for effortless dressing – especially for busy, young mums!

Linen! I love linen, an instant effortless look and for mummas this also means comfort. Every store is bound to have some beautiful linen pieces available in either colours or neutrals.

What are some of your favourite colours this Spring?

I am usually a big neutral lover… BUT lilac and hot pink are really catching my eye this season. They make a big statement and can be toned down with lighter coloured pants and blazers.

Do let us in on a few key pieces you can’t live without…

For a beautiful Spring picnic: Definitely a floaty floral dress.. This NEVER goes out of style.

For a Spring brunch with your girlfriends: Button-up coloured shirt paired with jeans and some heels. Effortless, pretty and comfy!

For a smart casual work meeting: An oversized pants set. This is key in a capsule wardrobe and can be dressed up or down with heels or sneakers.

Finally, we’d love to know what you think about the shopping experience at Silverdale Mall?
